Abstract:
The Health Care System is struggling to keep providing the demanded services to the citizens that expect to live better and longer . The current trend of health care expenditure growth is no longer sustainable and Health Care Systems need to react by increasing budgets , which seems unlikely ,or by cutting services dramatically , which seems unfeasible ,or by doing things different , more effectively and better , that is innovating by using the knowledge and applying technologies in a wiser way.
We shall review what are the challenges that drive Innovation in Health Care and what are the current opportunities of Biotechnology in health in the current and future Health Care settings. We shall also analyze the Innovation model of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona , one of the leading biomedicine research institutions in Spain and Europe.
