The aim of the project, led by an interdisciplinary team from the Knowledge and Didactics (CODI) research group at the University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC), is to provide participating children with an authentic environmental experience. In other words, they will be able to collect real environmental data, make decisions based on this data, and take actions that help improve the biodiversity of the playground.

Biodiversity Courtyards is run by specialists in science and mathematics education, as well as biologists and naturalists from the BETA Technology Center and the Osona Naturalists Group. The principal investigator for the project is Arnau Amat, PhD in science education, biologist, and coordinator of the Master’s Degree in Primary Education at UVic-UCC. Biodiversity Courtyards is developed in collaboration with the Vic City Council and with the support of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology-Ministry of Science and Innovation.
