The European “Writing for Inclusion (WIN)” project, led and coordinated by the UVic-UCC, ended last Tuesday with a Multiplier Event, which took place in the Sala Segimon Serrallonga at the University of Vic-Central University of Catalonia. The WIN project aimed to develop resources and tools to promote the inclusion of 9- and 10-year-old children in school through creative writing and its implementation has been very successful despite the challenges of the covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine. WIN has been led by Mireia Canals-Botines (principal researcher of the project), Àngel Raluy Alonso, Miquel Pujol Tubau and Núria Medina-Casanovas, professors and researchers from the Faculty of Education, Translation, Sports and Psychology (FETEP) from the UVic-UCC. The European Projec, funded by the Erasmus + program, has been carried out with several partners, including the Escola Pinediques de Taradell; l’Istituto Comprensivo Le Cure (Florence, Italy), Erzsébetvárosi Két Tanítási Nyelvú Általános Iskola és Szakgimnázium (Budapest, Hungary), Comprehensive school of I-III degree #18 of Poltava City Council Of Potava region (Poltava, Ukraine), Università di Firenze (Florence, Italy), Etövös Loránd Tudomanyegyetem University (Budapest, Hungary), and Poltava V.G. Korolenko National Pedagogical University (Poltava, Ukraine).

The WIN project has given support to teachers with training sessions and didactic resources that allow them to detect latent conflicts and improve the inclusive attitudes of students. To achieve this, the project has focused on using resources ranging from creative writing to digital storytelling. The final result has been a free toolbox open to all schools in Europe to effectively deal with inclusion in the primary classroom. Based on the teacher’s approach to a controversial situation, which served as a starting point, the children, randomly organized in small groups, were able to use animations to invent a collective story to tackle the issue. The results obtained have been shared with the class group and the conflicts that have arisen have been shared internationally across the consortium schools.

The event on Tuesday afternoon began with a presentation entitled “Innovative approaches to the use of technology in education”, by Sharon Tonner-Saunders, professor of Technologies-ICT and Music at the Faculty of Education from the University of Dundee (UK). Afterwards, Dr. Iryna Kohut and Galyna Ryabukha spoke about the participation that Ukraine has had in the WIN project, and finally, the results of the project were shared. All attendees were given a toolkit on how to use the online project platform together with pedagogical guidelines to build digital stories for and with children.
