Participation in the International Seminar “Beyond the Borders of Europe: Science4Ukraine and Writing for Inclusion” by members of the WIN project

On June 27 2022, on the basis of the University of Vic-Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC, Spain) together with the scientific research institution “Beta Center” (Spain) was held the “International Seminar “Beyond the borders of Europe: Science4Ukraine and Writing for Inclusion” with the participation of the university administration: Josep Eladi Baños (Rector of UVic-UCC), Josep Bau (Vice-Rector for International Relations of UVic-UCC), Sergio Ponsá (Director of the BETA Technological Center at UVic-UCC), Manuel Szapiro (Director of the European Commission Representation in Barcelona), Maryna Grynova (Rector of Poltava V. G. Korolenko National Pedagogical University, PNPU), Vasyl Fasan (Vice-Rector of Research of PNPU), Iryna Kohut (Head of the Department of Innovation and International Relations of PNPU) and Stanislav Kutsenko (Coordinator of the Network of Educational Hubs, Advisor to the Director of the Institute of Education Content Modernization of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine). School teachers and lecturers joined the discussion with partner universities of  the European Union project Erasmus + KA 2: “Writing for Inclusion” (WIN), together with educators and scientists of leading European educational institutions.

During the first part of the meeting, the Science for Ukraine program was presented, and the issue of the need for further support for scientists from Ukraine who were forced to leave the country during the war was discussed. Also about the specifics of creating scientific and educational hubs in Ukraine and abroad to promote study and employment opportunities for Ukrainian students and scientists.

During the round table, regarding the features of the implementation of the Erasmus + KA 2 project: “Writing for Inclusion” (WIN), Mireia Canals-Botines (project IP, researcher and professor of Department of Philology, Faculty of Education, Translation, Sport and Psychology at UVic-UCC) pointed out the peculiarities and challenges faced by the project participants during the implementation of events and activities within the framework of the project. She also expressed her support for Ukrainian scientists and children from Ukraine.

The discussion of the results of the project were attended by professor and researcher Angel Raluy-Alonso, Nuria Medina-Casanovas (researcher, professor and Coordinator of the Master’s Degree in Teacher Training for Secondary School, Minor in Languages) and Miquel Pujol-Tubau (professor, researcher and Head of Studies in the Faculty of Education, Translation, Sport and Psychology at UVic-UCC). During the round table, Cinta Gonzalez (teacher in the Primary school “Les Pinediques”, Spain) briefly shared her experience in the project as school partner.

The biggest challenge before the crisis was presented by participants from Ukraine: Oksana Rudych (Associate professor of the Department of Preschool Education of PNPU), Iryna Kohut (Head of the Department of Innovation and International Relations of PNPU) and Alla Kochlyak (teacher of Poltava School 18). Perspectives on challenges prior to the crisis were broadened through the views expressed by Valéria Árva (Head of Department of Foreign Languages and Literature, Faculty of Primary and Preschool Education, Lorand Eotvos University of Budapest, Hungary), Rossella Certini (Associate Professor of General and Social Pedagogy of University of Florence, Italy) and Cristina Mannucci (teacher of Istituto Comprensivo Le Cure, Italy), all of them members of the WIN project representing their partner institutions.

Also, the specificities of the project’s work were presented by Eduard Ramirez and Natalia Sulaieva, Deans of both Education faculties in UVic-UCC and PNPU, who outlined the importance of continuing the project in the future.

Separately, it is worth noting that the red thread in the content of each report was the theme of the war in Ukraine; each of the speakers expressed their support for the people of Ukraine and agreed to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in the future.
