The project “Teachers and Effective Corrective Feedback” (MERCE) aims to improve the writing skills of Primary Education Degree students based on the impact of the written corrective feedback (corrections) they receive during their university studies.

Although there are numerous studies on the types of corrective feedback in academic settings and their effectiveness in the world of English as a first and second language, in the case of Catalan and In Spanish, there are no empirical studies on the role and effectiveness of written corrections provided by teachers in students’ texts. Therefore, the study has three objectives:

  • The first is to analyze the process of corrective feedback written in the texts of Primary Education Degree students to analyze what type of feedback teachers provide and what impact it has on the quality of students’ texts.
  • The second objective is to design a training program on written corrective feedback based on empirical evidence so that university professors can provide more effective feedback with the aim of improving students’ writing skills.
  • The third objective is to determine the impact of corrective feedback training on primary education students in order to investigate the extent to which their experience of receiving feedback is also transferred to their corrective practice in primary school students’ texts.

Thus, the project “Teachers and Effective Corrective Feedback” (MERCE) integrates the improvement of the written language skills of future primary school teachers with language teaching at university and the transfer of these skills to the practice of future primary school teachers.
