The Stop Malbaratament (Stop Food Waste) project aims to reduce food waste in schools and holiday camps and to identify the factors that cause it. This research project is made up of Fundesplai and the M3O Research Group of the University of Vic-Central University of Catalonia and is funded by the European Union under the SMP-FOOD – 2024 – FW – STAKEHOLDERS – PJ – EU Call to support improving the measurement of food and help implement food waste prevention in their operations and organizations.
It is a longitudinal cross-sectional study divided into 3 phases corresponding to the different established work packages:
- Diagnosis of the initial situation in school dining facilities and holiday camps;
- Intervention in school dining facilities and holiday camps;
- Evaluation of the intervention. The research will be conducted in schools and holiday camps with a midday educational time service managed by Fundesplai, either with an on-site kitchen or a central kitchen, and also in holiday camps managed by Fundesplai.
Participants include Anna Vila-Martí, Cristina Vaqué-Crusellas, Míriam Torres-Moreno, and Blanca Ribot-Serra, they are working on this project for 2 years until results are produced in 2027.
