Feliu López-i-Gelats is co-director of the Chair of Agroecology and Food Systems for Social Transformation at University of Vic-Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC). Lecturer at the Department of Social Sciences and Community Health, and member of the Society, Policies and Inclusive Communities research group (SOPCI). He is an environmental social scientist trained in ecological economics and political ecology, and agroecology. His fundamental research line is agroecology and a critical view to the agrifood system, with the key hypothesis that small production and small consumption go with more sustainable, fairer and healthier agri-food systems. In particular, he has particular attention to examining the vulnerability and capacity of adaptation of smallholders to global environmental change, particularly pastoralists and beekeepers; examining the crisis of identity of agriculture and rural areas as a whole; examining the effectiveness of agroecological strategies, mainly community-based development strategies and employment of local traditional knowledge, to empower rural dwellers and small-scale producers; and finally examining the phenomenon of food waste.
