Sportswashing. Global Perspectives on the Politics of Promotion
This talk draws on the book Sportswashing. Global Perspectives on the Politics of Promotion by Xavier Ramon and Peter English
On 10 June 2026 at 12:00 CEST, the Faculty of Communication Sciences at University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC) will host a special online research seminar marking the book Sportswashing. Global Perspectives on the Politics of Promotion by Xavier Ramon and Peter English.
The webinar, titled “Sportswashing. Global Perspectives on the Politics of Promotion” will be delivered by Dr. Xavier Ramon (Associate Professor in Journalism at the Department of Communication of Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona) and Dr. Peter English (Senior Lecturer in Journalism at the University of the Sunshine Coast). In addition, the authors from three chapters of the book will be invited to participate in the seminar, they are:
- Alice Němcová Tejkalová (Charles University, Czech Republic)
- Luke Bird and Toni Bruce (University of Auckland, New Zealand).
- Christopher D. Tulloch (Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Spain)
The session will be moderated by Dr. Xavier Ginesta, lecturer in Sport Marketing and Director of the Communication Sciences Department at UVic-UCC.
The event is organized by the Faculty of Business and Communication at UVic-UCC, the research group SPRING (Sport and Politics Research Group), and the Doctoral School of UVic-UCC. This seminar explores sportswashing. Moreover, Dr. Xavier Ramon and Dr. Peter English will make the introduction and explanation of the book project. The authors from three chapters of the book will explain key insights of their respective chapters on the Olympic Games, the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and the Premier League.
The webinar is free and open to researchers, students and professionals interested in sport studies, communication and politics of promotion.
