Streaming the Formula 1 Rivalry: F1 and the Media

On 22 April 2026 at 16:00 CEST, the Faculty of Communication Sciences at University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC) will host a special online research seminar marking the book Streaming the Formula 1 Rivalry: Sport and the Media in the Platform Age by Raymond Boyle and Richard Haynes.
The webinar, titled “Streaming the Formula 1 Rivalry: F1 and the Media” will be delivered by Dr. Raymond Boyle (Professor of Communications and Director of the centre for Cultural Policy Research at the University of Glasgow) and Dr. Richard Haynes (Professor of Media Sport in the Division of Communications, Media and Culture at the University of Stirling, Scotland). The session will be moderated by Dr. Xavier Ginesta, lecturer in Sport Marketing and Director of the Communication Sciences Department at UVic-UCC.
The event is organized by the Faculty of Business and Communication at UVic-UCC, the research group SPRING (Sport and Politics Research Group), and the Doctoral School of UVic-UCC. This seminar explores how the relationship between the sport and the media has evolved in this new digital environment. Drawing on original interviews with key stakeholders across the media and sports industry, Dr. Boyle and Dr. Haynes will examine the range of media representations and key narratives that the sport offers and how its relationship with other television genres, such as the Netflix series Drive to Survive is impacting the nature of the sport and its audience.
The webinar is free and open to researchers, students and professionals interested in sport studies, film studies, communication and political culture.
