People with mental health disorders keep suffering stigma from society associated with their mental disorders, and healthcare professionals are vital agents to reduce stigma. The organization “Obertament” states that it is essential to eradicate stigma in healthcare systems, a place where individuals look for treatment, help, and answers.

A group of professors at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Welfare and Osonament Foundation have started the ESTIGMA project aiming at identifying the perceptions of health sciences students toward mental health disorders. The project compares the stigma level of students in Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Nursing and Nutrition degrees at the beginning and end of their degree.

This project aims to study if the existing course of study plans at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Welfare contribute to reducing stigma toward mental health disorders, preparing professionals who promote acceptance, integration, and equality of people with mental health disorders in our society.

The study is led by Judit Rusiñol-Rodriguez (Occupational Therapy, UVic-UCC) and the team is composed by Blanca Ribot-Serra (Human Nutrition and Dietetics, UVic-UCC), Meritxell Mondejar-Pont (Nursing, UVic-UCC), Neus Vila (Occupational Therapy, UVic-UCC and Osonament) and Vinicius Rosa de Oliveira (Physiotherapy, UVic-UCC.
