The UVic team just won the Mastercard award, worth 1000 euros of the JA- YE Startup Program that is part of the European Programme: Junior Achievement -Young Enterprise and aims to encourage entrepreneurship in universities and assist the entrepreneurs .The project has been well received by the court and was one of five finalists of the Brilliant Young Entrepreneurs Award of Hyundai that lets opt to € 15,000 of investment for the implementation of the project. The winning project has been “Verdis”. This project proposes the production and marketing of Spirulina in final food products as infusion, milkshake or spicy and has been developed by the Biotechnology Degree students: Laia Cruz, Maria Abascal and Meritxell Pintó. The other finalists are Spanish Universities: Universidad Alfonso X El Sabio with the project “coolhunter,” , Universidad Autónoma de Madrid with the project “Vital Tie” Universidad Camilo Jose Cela with the “Ergon-Desk” project and the Universidad Complutense de Madrid with the project “Flipship.”
The JA-YE Startup Programme is driven by the University-Enterprise and Achievement Foundations and involves 19 universities in Spain.
