VIRTUAL WORKSHOP. Maternity in times of crisis. Evidence, lessons and challenges in a (post) pandemic world

The UNESCO Chair ‘Women, Development and Cultures’ wants to promote the transfer of knowledge and the exchange of experiences that help advance reproductive rights in maternity. To generate a meeting between academy, motherhood associations and professional’s health care, we are organizing a virtual conference on June 27, 2022, from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (GMT+1) via zoom (registration below). The goals of the conference are a) to analyze the impact of the pandemic on health care in maternity hospitals, b) to identify difficulties, elements for improvement and new opportunities to guarantee reproductive rights in maternity by health systems and, c) to share experiences of accompaniment and support for motherhood that are inspiring to face the challenges of the future.

  • Participation from academy:

Helen Elden. Professor in health care sciences, at the University of Gothenburg (Sweden), specialized in reproductive and perinatal health, and the research group leader for the Sexual Reproductive and perinatal health research group.

Josefina Goberna Tricas. Full professor at the University of Barcelona (Spain), ​​in the School of Nursing of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and secretary of ADHUC—Theory, Gender and Sexuality Research Center.

In addition, Montse Fernández of the UNESCO Women, Development and Cultures Chair will present the research: Sexual and reproductive rights in times of pandemic: maternity and COVID-19 in Catalonia.

  • Participation from professional in sexual and reproductive care:

Salomé Álvarez Rodríguez. Midwife, member of the board of the Professional Association of Midwives of Asturias, and president of the Federation of Associations of Midwives of Spain FAME.

  • Participation from motherhood rights associationism:

Marta Busquets Gallego. An expert in gender and sexual and reproductive rights, she is the president of Dona Llum, a Catalan association for respected childbirth.

Aranzazu Villar Fernández, member of El Parto Es Nuestro, a Spanish feminist association focused to enhance care conditions for mothers and children during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. Aranzazu is the responsible of the campaign “Don’t Enter Alone”.

Registration is free. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance.
