The director of the Chair of Agroecology and Food systems of the University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia (Uvic-UCC), Marta Guadalupe Rivera, will be part of an international working group that will advise the European Commission (EC) on the transition towards sustainable food systems. This panel of experts is promoted by the European Scientific Advice Mechanism (SAM), which provides independent and transparent scientific recommendations to the executive body of the European Union, bringing together experts from different fields through the European academies of science.
The report prepared by the working group will provide a scientific point of view on feasible strategies for the European Union to move towards a sustainable, fair and inclusive food system in an appropriate period of time. Their work will incorporate conclusions based on scientific evidence on health, the environment and socioeconomic aspects, in order to make this transition.
This group of experts will meet in 3 working sessions, on the 22nd of May in London, the 18th of June in Berlin and September 17th in Brussels. From these meetings and the personal contributions of each advisor, each of which will have specific issues of which they are responsible for, a first draft of the report will be created. The final report is scheduled to be published in March 2020.
