The MECAMAT research group at the University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC) is pleased to welcome Tom Garnaud, a French engineering student from CESI Toulouse, who will be conducting a 3-month research internship under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Moisès Garín.

Tom is currently pursuing an engineer’s degree in Embedded Electrical and Electronic Systems. His academic background includes extensive training in electrical architecture, embedded systems programming (C, C++, Arduino, Python, VHDL), signal processing, analog circuit design, and microcontroller-based control systems. He has also acquired hands-on experience in test bench design and data acquisition through previous internships at Naïo Technologies, where he contributed to projects involving electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), safety standards (ISO 13849), and autonomous robotic systems.

During his time at MECAMAT, Tom will focus on upgrading the data acquisition system of the fissuro-meter, an experimental device used for measuring crack propagation in materials. His work will involve both hardware and software improvements, including signal conditioning and interface optimization. A key objective of the internship is to enable remote communication and control of the fissuro-meter via the Internet, which will significantly enhance the system’s capabilities for real-time data monitoring and remote experimentation.

This collaboration not only strengthens the international dimension of the MECAMAT group but also contributes to ongoing innovation in experimental mechanics and smart instrumentation.

Welcome, Tom!
