Rosarosa Manca, a researcher from the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Florence, was recently invited by Dr. Judit Molera to visit the laboratories at the Faculty of Science, Technology, and Engineering (FCTE) at UVic-UCC.

During her visit, they explored the progress of a collaborative project that studies 13th and 14th-century “green and manganese” decorated ceramics from Pisa, Barcelona, and Valencia. This project, led by Manca and Molera, aims to analyze the compositions of glazes and decorations on these ceramics to uncover possible connections beyond stylistic similarities. This line of research is pivotal in understanding the trade and cultural links of the period.

Rosarosa Manca, a scientist specializing in heritage with a PhD in Earth Sciences, is also the co-director of Diletta Paghi’s doctoral research. Paghi, a student currently on a three-month research stay with the Mecamat group, is conducting her work as part of the collaborative project between UVic-UCC and the University of Florence. She is focusing on the analysis of ceramic materials, contributing to the broader understanding of medieval Mediterranean heritage.
