The Garrins Metàl·lics robotics team of UVic-UCC has been reconstituted to face the 2023/24 season. Compared to the previous season, Isaac Acevedo, Paola Viedma, Pau Llimargas, Narcís Gonzàlez, and Pau Gardela continue in the team. Jordi Sánchez, Álvaro Hernández, and Pau Tort join the team. The team members are students of the Mechatronics Engineering degree, except for Pau Tort, who studies Multimedia Applications and Video Games.
The team will be coached by Sergi de las Muelas, a Mechatronics engineer, current professor of the Mechatronics Engineering degree, and former member of the Garrins Metàl·lics team. Additionally, Isaac Acevedo will also serve as the team captain.
The Garrins Metàl·lics team was created in 2012 to design and build robots capable of participating in international robotics competitions. During the first four seasons, the team competed in Tarragona, Grenoble, Eindhoven, and Saint Louis (USA), winning various awards within the framework of the First Tech Challenge (FTC) tournament. Since the 2016/17 academic year, the team has participated in the European-level Eurobot tournament, where in the 2023 edition, the team became the runner-up at Eurobot Spain held in Alcalá de Henares and competed in the Eurobot final in La Roche-Sur-Yon (Pays de la Loire, France).
The Garrins Metàl·lics team is already preparing for a new edition of Eurobot in the spring of 2024. The tournament involves building a robot to solve, completely autonomously, a challenge placed on a 2x3m table. The challenge for the 2024 edition is called Farming Mars, and the robots must figuratively cultivate and replant plants to survive on the planet Mars.
Best of luck to the new team!
