Moises Garín has created a flexible and open source device to measure CO2 levels

The project involves regularly measuring and making accessible to the community various indicators, such as relative humidity, ambient temperature and the level of carbon dioxide (CO₂) of UVIC-UCC spaces. CO₂ levels will allow both students and employees of the University to know the environmental conditions of the place where they are and, therefore, can apply corrective measures in the spaces that require it. These stations will be connected to the network and will collect the data on a server. “We designed the electronics to interface with the sensors and send the information to the servers, from where it can be consulted,” says Garín. In addition, notifications are received when a space exceeds 800 ppm (thresholds between 800 and 1,000 ppm are considered to be correct air quality values, but corrective ventilation should be taken). These measures include opening doors and windows to facilitate cross ventilation.

Moises Garín has created them with flexibility in mind: “thanks to their later design, if circumstances allow and demand it, there will be the possibility of extending them with other measuring devices to control a greater number of environmental factors.
