Marcel Pla has been the winner of the UVic-CETIM awards Eusebi Molera for the best Final Degree Projects (TFG) in the field of engineering at UVic, which is awarded annually by the Professional Association of Industrial Technical Engineers and graduates of Manresa (CETIM). Marcel Pla studied the double degree in Mechatronics Engineering and Industrial Electronics Engineering and Automatization at UVic-UCC and he defended his final degree project (TFG) last June 2017. Marcel has designed, constructed and validated a low-cost universal machine (less than 1000€) for a tensile or compression test. The universal machine needed to be suitable for testing biologic tissues and also testing polymers, with the strength enough for achieving ultimate tensile strength (rupture). This machine will be also used for educational purposes in subjects as Technology and Materials Science, that is taught at engineering degrees and will be used for research purposes by TR2Lab (biomedical area) and MECAMAT(mechatronics area).
The jury of the prize, made up of teachers and representatives of CETIM, chose this project from among the four that had been submitted to the call. The event was conducted by the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology (UST), Sergi Grau and the Dean of CETIM, Àngel Vilarasau. This activity was part of the 2017 Science Week program, which is funded by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology FECYT-MINECO.
