Garrins Metàl·lics Robotics Team constitution for the 2024/25 Season

The UVic-UCC Garrins Metàl·lics robotics team has been reconstituted to face the 2024/25 season. Paola Viedma, Narcís Gonzàlez, Jordi Sánchez and Pau Tort continue in the team and Guillem de las Muelas, Dídac Fernández, Dani Picazo, Jan Martínez and Nico Alacaraz join, all of them coming from the support group Garrins Metàl·lics B in the 23/24 season.

As for the support group for the team, Garrins Metàl·lics B, Oriol Arbonies will continue and Guillem Benavent, Georgina Garcia, Joan Marc Tur and Martí Sayago will join. Guillem Benavent is currently in the 1st year of the degree in Mechatronic Engineering; and Georgina Garcia, Joan Marc Tur and Martí Sayago 2nd year also of Mechatronics.

The team will be coached by Sergi de las Muelas, Mechatronics engineer, professor of the Degree in Mechatronic Engineering, a former member of the Garrins Metàl·lics team and coach since last season. On the other hand, Narcís González will act as captain of the team and Isaac Acevedo and Pau Gardela, former members of the team, will act as mentors.

The Garrins Metàl·lics team was created in 2012 to design and build robots suitable for participating in robotics competitions at an international level. For the first four seasons, the team competed in Tarragona, Grenoble, Eindhoven and Saint Louis (USA), obtaining several prizes within the framework of the First Tech Challenge (FTC) tournament. Since the 2016/17 academic year, the team has participated in the European Eurobot tournament where, in several editions, it has been a finalist in Eurobot Spain held in Alcalá de Henares and has participated in the European Eurobot final in La Roche-Sur-Yon (Pays de la Loire, France).

The Garrins Metàl·lics team is already preparing for a new edition of Eurobot in spring 2025. The tournament consists of building a robot to solve, completely autonomously, a challenge located on a 2x3m table. The challenge of the 2025 edition is called The show must go on and the robots have to set up a stage for a musical show.
