A project implemented by Mainardo Gaudenzi, researcher of the MECAMAT research group collected a total of 14,267 € within the crowdfunding campaign ‘Conjuntaments’ promoted by the Goteo Foundation and supported by Barcelona Activa. The ‘The Tile Project’ focuses on search, rescue, study, and valorise Catalan Modernist hydraulic tiles. The historical-artistic cataloging of thousands of tile models owned by collector and project partner Joel Canovas will start on next July; whilst the analysis on colours aimed to identify and cataloging the spectral fingerprint of approximately 2000 different models will start next September. The scientific analysis will be carried on by means of the open technology prototyped at UVic-UCC within the project “smARTS-Smart Technology for analysis of cultural heritage materials” (Horizon2020, núm. 708527). The main objective of the scientific analyses is the creation of a ‘Chart of Colours’ of the Catalan hydraulic tiles: a unique chart that will include historical-artistic and technical recommendations aimed to optimize preservation actions of these decorative elements according to cultural heritage conservation international standards, and provide guidelines for good practice to those artisans that are engaged in preserving this traditional technique.
A successful crowdfunding campaign will allow MECAMAT rescue and valorise Catalan cultural heritage
