The project “The Spirituality of Nurses and its Impact on the Care of Hospitalized Patients in Central Catalonia” seeks to better understand how nurses’ personal beliefs and openness to spiritual beliefs influences on the care they provide. This research analyzes the relationship between nurses’ perception of spiritual care and their use of spirituality-related interventions described in the Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC), aiming to highlight how spirituality can be integrated into everyday clinical practice to promote more inclusive and responsive spiritual care in nursing.

The study will take place across five hospital centers in Central Catalonia (Bages and Osona) — including the Fundació Althaia hospitals in Manresa and the Consorci Hospitalari de Vic facilities in Vic and Manlleu.

  • Fundació Althaia: Centre Hospitalari de Manresa, Hospital Sant Joan de Déu de Manresa
  • Consorci Hospitalari de Vic: Hospital Universitari de Vic, Hospital Universitari de la Santa Creu de Vic, Hospital Sant Jaume de Manlleu

It will involve nurses from all units, including nurses who combine their healthcare work with other tasks (management, research, quality, teaching…). Conducted between 2025 and 2027, this project aspires to strengthen the understanding of spirituality as a vital dimension of health and to support professionals in delivering care that respects and responds to the spiritual needs of patients.
