Due to the pandemic, the long term care system throughout Catalonia has suffered a major impact. The ResiCOVID19 project has two main objectives: to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the long term care system in Catalonia but also to their residents, families, and health care workers. The second objective is to develop proposals of improvement for the care model in Catalonia.

In order to achieve its goals the project has several research strategies: a systematic review of literature published since the beginning of the pandemic, an analysis of massive data about mortality, morbidity and the use of health resources since March 2020, a retrospective and cross-sectional studies based on a sample of long term care facilities based on fieldwork, using quantitative and qualitative methods, an international benchmark of improvement proposals, and a co-creation process of the proposal with all the stakeholders involved in the long term care system in Catalonia.

The team is composed by several research groups and researchers:  The Research Group of Cronicitat de la Catalunya Central (C3RG), Methodology, Methods, Models and Outcomes of Health and Social Sciences (M3O), the Data Analysis and Modeling Research Group (DAM), the Salut Mental i Innovació Social Research Group (SaMIS), and the Research Group Educativa of the University of Vic (GREUV).  The IP of the project is Dr. Xavier Gómez-Batiste.
