Renewing Ergonomic Education for Health Care Students in European HEIs (RENE) Project is set to improve and unify the patient handling education in health care sector. It’s a three year Project, till 2022, funded by an Erasmus+ KA Strategic Partnership for higher education, with the participation of 8 different organisations from 6 countries (Finland, Slovenia, Lithuania, Estonia, Portugal and Spain).

According to national and international statistics, healthcare staff has a very high risk of musculoskeletal disorders, derived mainly from poor manual patient handling practices. The main objective is to improve the education of healthcare staff about patient handling. The Project will have 3 outcomes. First, it will analyse the existing conditions in each country, like legal issues, formal curriculum on nursing and physiotherapy degrees, everyday practices, etc. Second, a 5 ECTS course will be created, the SAPHA-Patient handling in safe and rehabilitating way, with two parts, a theoretical one and a practical one. The third will be a specific manual for teachers in order to facilitate the implementation of the course.

The research team is composed by Eduard Minobes-Molina, Judit Rusinyol-Rodríguez, Emilia Chirveches-Pérez, Montse Romero-Mas, Mireia Datsira and Javier Jerez-Roig, the last as IP.
