“Central sensitization in subjects with chronic postsurgical pain after a knee arthroplasty” is a project in collaboration with the Consorci Hospitalari de Vic, and has been funded by The Catalan Board of Physical Therapists.

Chronic postsurgical pain is one of the major adverse effects of knee arthroplasty. It affects more than 20% of the patients, and its development and persistence might be associated with a central sensitization process, which involves an altered descending pain modulatory system and a hypersensitivity to noxious stimuli.
The present study compares patients with and without chronic postsurgical pain after knee arthroplasty using different experimental pain techniques to assess their local and widespread sensitization and conditioned pain modulation.
The leading researcher of this project is Marc Terradas-Monllor, but other research group members are involved, such as Mirari Ochandorena-Acha, Eduard Minobes-Molina, Carles Parés-Martínez and Rosa Terré-Boliart.
