Mainstreaming Intersectionality within Care, Prevention and Shelter Policies

Our partners from the Sexual and Gender Diversity research team (GETLIHC) at Universitat de Vic – Universitat Central de Catalunya led the session “Diversity at the Crossroads: an Intersectional Look at Care, Policies, Prevention and Shelter”, conducted by researcher Marina García Castillo, who brought together professionals from the public administration and organizations to discuss public policies, care services, and prevention and training projects focused on the intersection -the core-crossroads- of gender and origin. The event included three round tables on:

  1. Public policies and services for LGTB care, also extending to minorized communities at risk of social exclusion
  2. Existing prevention and training projects on inequalities from an intersectional perspective and their key learnings
  3. Discussions on political asylum from an intersectional approach, attending to experiences of space, religion, origin and political environments

This session aligns with the project in terms of highlighting the need to mainstream intersectionality within Higher Education so that social workers, pedagogues, educators and mentors are aware not only of how diverse experiences intersect, thus, creating experiences of discrimination and privilege but also in terms of how we need further research to understand how such intersections are socially and economically contextual.
