Intersectionality for Change: Opportunities and Challenges in Higher Education Research, Teaching and Policy

Registration is now open for both in-person and online participants.
The conference will take place on 30 June and 1 July 2026 in Kraków (Poland), in a hybrid format, allowing participants to attend either on-site at Jagiellonian University or online. As the final event of the InterHEd project, the conference will bring together researchers, educators, students, policymakers, and practitioners to reflect on the role of intersectionality in higher education and to discuss current challenges and opportunities in research, teaching, and institutional policy.
Across two days of presentations and discussions, participants will explore how intersectionality is understood, translated, and implemented in different higher education contexts. Particular attention will be paid to existing gaps in its application, as well as to the methodological, epistemological, pedagogical, and institutional challenges that emerge when attempting to address inequalities through an intersectional lens. The conference will also provide space to critically examine the tensions that arise when intersectionality is incorporated into policy frameworks and institutional practices.
We are delighted to confirm the participation of the following keynote speakers:
- Yvette Taylor, who will reflect on intersectionality as method, pedagogy, and politics in contemporary higher education, addressing questions of inequality, belonging, and institutional transformation.
- Margaret Ohia-Nowak, who will offer an intersectional discourse perspective on race, language, and education, examining the construction of Blackness and anti-Blackness in the Polish context.
- Anne-Laure Humbert, who will contribute methodological and analytical perspectives on researching inequalities and advancing intersectional approaches within higher education.
In addition to the keynote lectures, the programme will include paper presentations, thematic sessions, and discussions showcasing the work of researchers and practitioners from different national and disciplinary contexts. The conference will also provide an opportunity to present and discuss the main outcomes of the InterHEd project, fostering dialogue on how intersectionality can contribute to more equitable and inclusive higher education systems.
We look forward to welcoming participants from across Europe and beyond, both in Kraków and online, for what promises to be a stimulating space for exchange, reflection, and collaboration.
