“Speak on Screen: Translating Audiovisual Content in Minority Languages”

This online, hands-on workshop series learning how to dub/subtitle audiovisual content into minority/minoritised languages (MLs). Designed for speakers of MLs interested in language revitalisation, media creation, and audiovisual translation (AVT), the workshop consists of online sessions and autonomous learning using the HOW TIMELY* training platform with the support of specialists of the TRACTE research group.

General aims

  • Build stronger connections within and between communities
  • Bridge the gap and foster understanding across generations
  • Strengthen cultural identity by sharing audio and visual cultural content with more people whilst learning useful, transferable skills

Learning goals

  • Learn the basics of audiovisual translation and dubbing
  • Produce your own translation of a short film
  • Practice script preparation, voicing and synchronisation
  • Practice subtitle creation and integration
  • Share your work and experience with other ML creators and activists

Calendar

  • 10th November: Introduction to AVT and to the HOW TIMELY platform; video clip selection
  • 1st December: Support session for doubts and discussion among participants
  • 10th December: Screening of participant’s productions; roundtable with specialists in the field
