Anthony Garner criticises everyday situations in society through the humour of cartoons
Anthony Garner uses illustrations and cartoons to make people laugh, but above all to make society think. The illustrator has the freedom to choose what he wants to reflect or criticise through his drawings. Garner’s goal is to make the world a better place through his own cartoons.
Anthony Garner released his first book on 22 June 2020. A 200-page book full of cartoons about climate change. The British artist and illustrator treats the subject with humour, but manages to make people aware of climate change through laughter and cartoons. Garner makes it clear, with his caricatures, who the bad guys are: Trump, Bolsonaro, Zuckerberg, the big tycoons with cigars and top hats of the big oil companies… And he praises those who fight for the climate, such as the young activist Greta Thunberg. The book also has a space for all the animals of the planet, especially ants.
Anthony Garner studied graphic design at Berkshire College of Art in Reading and worked as a copywriter in a London advertising agency. In 1993 he moved to Barcelona and began working for newspapers such as El País, Ara and El Punt Avui. He also worked for TV3, Els matins. He currently draws the daily cartoon for the newspaper El Periódico and also works for the magazine El Jueves.
