Andrés Corpas, who is a sports journalist for newspapers and the writer of “Las damas del agua”, and “Capitana”, has given a talk to the second–year journalism students of the UVic-UCC.
On Wednesday, the journalist from Castellón talked to the journalism students about what it is like to be a sports journalist and how to achieve your dreams, as Andrés has done. First of all, he introduced himself as a journalist who had dreams and ambitions, which he has finally achieved. Andrés’ dreams were to write a book and to be a sports journalist. To date, Andrés has written two books. One about the most important female swimmers in the history of Spain, and how it affects the female gender in sport. The book is called “Las damas del agua” [The ladies of the water]. His second book is a biography of Vicky Losada, “Capitana”, which reviews the history of the former captain of FC Barcelona, and how the current Manchester City player has experienced women’s football.
Additionally, he gave the students a lot of advice about writing for the media. As previously mentioned, Andrés Corpas has written sports articles about Villarreal CF and FC Barcelona for the newspaper El Mundo. One of the phrases that the journalist repeated on several occasions was “you have to believe it, you have to fight for your dreams”. He also introduced the talk with three very important concepts in the life of a journalist: “try it, you can do it and don’t forget that”. Andrés Corpas showed the students many of his articles in which he has interviewed many football players, visited many stadiums, talked to swimmers, etc.
Finally, Andrés Corpas reviewed the positive and negative aspects of journalism today, and how the new media and the new generations have to take the reins of this new journalism. The talk ended with a standing ovation from the young people and afterwards, they stayed to chat with Andrés Corpas to learn more about the life of a journalist and receive advice from a great journalist.
