Sob o consulado de António Ferro na direção do Secretariado de Propaganda Nacional, recentemente criado em 1933, foi preparada a encenação de Salazar com um enquadramento cada vez mais internacional. Até aos anos quarenta, o SPN cuidadosamente convidou jornalistas, literatos, políticos, intelectuais para testemunharem sobre as qualidades do governante português. Anualmente, o próprio secretariado publicava obras estrangeiras com este intuito. Deste modo, não espanta que no lançamento do Jornal Português, o n.º 1, datado de fevereiro de 1938, se utilizasse esta mesma estratégica, desta feita para legitimar o cinema documental do regime. Para tanto, foi entrevistado o Barão Valentim Mandelstamm (1876-1949), na qualidade de profundo conhecedor do cinema e, em particular, de Hollywood. Foi assim uma sumidade de reputação internacional que anunciou as inúmeras potencialidades do cinema lusitano, sem deixar de exaltar as qualidades inerentes à própria terra, como sejam a esplêndida luz natural e paz politicamente assegurada. Exteriorizar esta evidência tornava-a indiscutível.
Under the consulship of António Ferro in the direction of the Secretariat of National Propaganda, recently created in 1933, the staging of Salazar was prepared with an increasingly international framework. Until the 1940s, the SPN carefully invited journalists, writers, politicians and intellectuals to testify about the Portuguese ruler’s qualities. Annually, the Secretariat itself published foreign works for this purpose. Thus, it is not surprising that in the launching of the Portuguese Journal, no. 1, dated February 1938, used this same strategy, this time to legitimize the documentary cinema of the regime. For that purpose, Baron Valentim Mandelstamm (1876-1949) was interviewed, as a profound connoisseur of cinema and, in particular, of Hollywood. It was thus a summit of international reputation that announced the innumerable potentialities of the Lusitanian cinema, while extolling the qualities inherent in the land itself, such as splendid natural light and the peace that was being politically assured. By externalizing this evidence, it became indisputable.
