Beyond her research activity within TR2Lab, PhD candidate Maria José Gil has played an active role this year in training healthcare professionals across several educational initiatives in the field of wound care, reaching nurses, nursing residents, and healthcare assistants throughout different regions.

FOCUSS Training Programmes (IACS)

Maria José coordinated and delivered two continuing professional development programmes promoted by the Aragonese Institute of Health Sciences (IACS), part of the FOCUSS Programme, which offers healthcare professionals practical training placements in reference units.

The Advanced Wound Care Techniques programme, delivered in three editions with two registered nurses per edition, combined theoretical and hands-on workshops — covering Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) and Autologous Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) technique and applications — with supervised clinical practice involving real patients in an outpatient wound care clinic.

The Compression Therapy for Lower Limb Wounds programme followed a similar structure over two days, also delivered in three editions, combining a theoretical and practical workshop with a day of supervised clinical practice.

Training on Dependency-Related Skin Lesions (DRSLs)

Maria José also delivered two specialised courses on the improvement of the management of Dependency-Related Skin Lesions: a 12-hour course for 22 registered nurses, and an 8-hour course for Healthcare Assistants, both combining theoretical instruction with hands-on practical workshops.

Compression Therapy Workshops in Primary Care

Extending this training effort into Primary Care, Maria José conducted 14 two-hour workshops on compression therapy across 14 Primary Care Teams, designed for nursing staff and attended by registered nurses as well as Family and Community Nursing residents.

Conferences on Flaminal® in Wound Management

Finally, Maria José delivered two educational lectures on the clinical application of Flaminal® in wound management, aimed at Wound Care Link Nurses. The first took place in Zaragoza, with 20 participants, while the second was held in Seville, gathering an audience of 80 healthcare professionals.

This wide-ranging training activity reflects Maria José’s ongoing commitment to sharing knowledge and strengthening clinical practice in wound care across different healthcare settings.
