David Barneda Ciurana

David Barneda is a lecturer at the University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC). His research focuses on the cell biology of lipids in a range of biomedical contexts.

Among other studies, he has worked on the molecular mechanisms of lipid droplet growth and function in adipocytes and stem cells, as well as the roles of phospholipid metabolism and signalling in cancer and immune cells. This includes research on the mechanisms and functional roles underlying the intriguing acyl-chain specificity of phosphoinositides, carried out in the laboratory of Phill Hawkins and Len Stephens, pioneers of PI3K signalling.

David Barneda holds a BSc in Chemistry from the University of Girona and a BSc and PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). From 2011 to 2022 he was a postdoctoral researcher at Imperial College London, Queen Mary University of London, AstraZeneca and the Babraham Institute. In 2023, he joined the Faculty of Medicine at UVic-UCC, where he teaches Human Physiology in the Medicine and Odontology degrees.

Juan Crespo wins Santander X Spain Awards 2026 with the Phygital Bone project

Dr. Juan Crespo, member of the TR2Lab research group, has been named one of the three winners of the Santander X Spain Awards | Proyectos Emprendedores Universitarios 2026, a competition that supports university entrepreneurial talent and showcases innovative projects with social, business, and technological impact. Dr. Anna Fàbrega Presents TR2Lab’s New Research Line on the Microbiome in Complex Wounds

Dr. Anna Fàbrega participated as an invited speaker at the I Jornada Ferides 360: experiència, coneixement i innovació - Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu, where she presented TR2Lab’s new research line focused on the study of the microbiome in complex wounds.
