Cristina Cruz is a lecturer at the University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC). Her research focuses on cancer biomarkers of prognosis and treatment response.

She graduated in Biochemistry in 1996 (University of Barcelona) and earned the doctorate in Biochemistry in 2001. In 2006 she graduated in Medicine (University of Barcelona) and is a Medical Oncology specialist since 2011. From 2011 to 2018 she was a clinical and translational investigator at Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO). She participated in a number of clinical trials in the field of early drug development (Phase I) and Phase II & III clinical trials investigating targeted therapies for hereditary breast and ovarian cancers. As a postdoctoral researcher from VHIO’s Experimental Therapeutics Group, she also developed translational projects to investigate the determinants of treatment response and resistance among BRCA1/2 germline mutation carriers, including the functional biomarker RAD51. In 2019, she joined the Faculty of Medicine at UVic-UCC, where she teaches Human Genetics, Histology, Medical Embryology and Physiology.

Vocations Born in the Laboratory: Biomedical Workshops for Upper Secondary Students

The Biomedical Workshops are a well-established scientific outreach initiative promoted by TR2Lab  within the framework of the Educational Biomedicine Program. The program is aimed at upper secondary (baccalaureate) students and seeks primarily to strengthen the bridge between scientific education at school level and university studies in the biomedical field. At the same time, these workshops serve as a valuable platform to bring biomedical sciences closer to young people, stimulate emerging scientific vocations, and channel students’ curiosity and interest in research. Marta Casals Zorita, new PhD at UVic-UCC

On March 20th, as part of the doctoral program in Comprehensive care and health services, Marta Casals Zorita defended her doctoral thesis titled “Educational program to improve adherence to self-care recommendations for people with complex wounds of the lower extremities” This research was conducted within research line of “Wound Healing in innovation” and was supervised by Dr. Elisabet Sarri and Dr. Marta Ferrer. The jury, composed of Dr. Javier Soldevilla from the La Rioja Health Service, Dr. Emilia Chirveches from UVic-UCC and Dr. Erica Homs from the University of Girona, awarded the doctoral thesis the highest academic distinction, Excellent Cum Laude.
