If You’re Not First, You’re Last: Sport, Film and Donald Trump
Launch of Sport and Film (2nd edition, Routledge, 2026)
On 23 March 2026 at 16:00 CET, the Faculty of Communication Sciences at University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC) will host a special online research seminar marking the launch of the second edition of Sport and Film (Routledge, 2026).
The webinar, titled “If You’re Not First, You’re Last: Sport, Film and Donald Trump,” will be delivered by Dr. Seán Crosson, Associate Professor of Film at the Huston School of Film & Digital Media, University of Galway. The session will be moderated by Dr. Xavier Ginesta, lecturer in Sport Marketing and Director of the Communication Sciences Department at UVic-UCC.
The event is organized by the Faculty of Business and Communication at UVic-UCC, the research group SPRING (Sport and Politics Research Group), and the Doctoral School of UVic-UCC. This seminar explores the intersection of sport, cinema, media spectacle and political culture, focusing particularly on the figure of Donald Trump and the broader narratives of competition, celebrity, and winning that shape contemporary audiovisual culture. Drawing from the newly updated edition of Sport and Film, Dr. Crosson will examine how sport functions as both cultural myth and political metaphor on screen.
The webinar is free and open to researchers, students and professionals interested in sport studies, film studies, communication and political culture.
