ABOUT THE PROJECT
Objectives
The general objective of REPAST is double:
- To provide scientifically-robust, empirically-grounded transformative science on the nature of the vulnerability of Spanish pastoralism to climate change focusing on extreme evens; and
- To extract lessons from the particular experience of pastoralism in facing extreme event for the development of empowering transformative knowledge for sustainable management of socio-ecological systems in context of climate change and rising uncertainty.
The following specific objectives will be addressed:
1.1. To identify the bottlenecks and barrier in pastoral value chains linked to extreme events, paying particular attention to those suffered by youths and women;
1.2. To characterize the adaptation strategies pastoralists and pastoral value chains are developing in the face of extreme events and the particular role played by youths and women.
2.1. To identify potential policy proposal that facilitate copying and adaptation options to extreme events which are inclusive following the principle of “leaving no one behind”;
2.2. To elaborate on what can be learned from the pastoral experience for the management of other socio-ecological systems in an increasingly uncertain world, and particularly in a context of increasing number of extreme events, climate- and non-climate-related.
