Què és SMART-Plant?
SMART Plant, “Scale-up of low-carbon footprint MAterial Recovery Techniques in existing wastewater treatment PLANTs” pretén millorar el funcionament de les estacions depuradores d’aigües residuals perquè recuperin al màxim els recursos i s’alineïn amb la visió de residu zero.
El projecte H2020 SMART-Plant ha implementant solucions eco-innovadores que renovin tecnològicament les plantes de tractament d’aigües residuals existents. L’aplicació d’aquestes tecnologies ha d’impulsar la producció de productes d’alt valor afegit, com ara cel·luloses, bioplàstics o biofertilitzants, i evitar alhora la generació de materials residuals.
Gràcies a la participació d’Aigües de Manresa, el Centre Tecnològic BETA de la UVic-UCC i el grup de recerca GENOCOV de la UAB s’han posat en funcionament dues plantes pilot a la depuradora de Manresa. El projecte SMART-Plant vol demostrar amb aquestes plantes pilot que és possible obtenir nous productes (com ara diversos tipus de biofertilitzants o biofuel) a partir del tractament de les aigües residuals, a la vegada que es redueix tant el seu cost energètic com les seves emissions.
En el marc del projecte el CT BETA elabora productes de valor afegit com biomassa i biofertilitzants a partir de llots de depuradora, mitjançant processos de bioassecatge i compostatge avançat. Aquests productes es van mostrar als assistents al congrés que fins i tot van poder-se endur un pack de compost per a testos.
En el projecte també participen una planta d’Holanda, on es generen fangs (a partir dels residus de tractament de l’aigua) amb un alt contingut de cel·lulosa, i una altra planta de Verona (Itàlia), on es generen fangs rics en fòsfor. Aquests fangs, que s’han generat també a partir d’altres tecnologies del projecte SMART-Plant, es traslladen després a Manresa.
Aquest projecte, coordinat per la Universitat de Verona, va rebre un premi de l’iWater, el Saló Internacional del Cicle Integral de l’Aigua.
El projecte, que es va posar en marxa el juny del 2016 amb una durada de quatre anys (1/06/2016-31/05/2020), ha rebut finançament del programa de recerca i innovació Horizon 2020 de la Unió Europea.

The Berlin Centre of Competence for Water (Kompetenzzentrum Wasser Berlin gGmbH, KWB), is an international non-profit public private research center on urban water systems. The shareholders are the world leading company for water supply and sanitation Veolia, the largest German water utility Berlinwasser, and the Senate of Berlin. The main mission consists of the planning and the execution of R&D projects, and the dissemination of project results together with the organization of conventions and symposia.
