People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) often have comorbidities and other health and physical impairments, such as functional limitations, mobility and balance difficulties, a higher risk of falls, and a shorter life expectancy.

The Sant Tomàs Foundation is an organisation dedicated to improving the quality of life and social participation of people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) in the Osona and Lluçanès regions. It offers a wide range of services, including occupational centres for adults with IDD who are unable to access ordinary or adapted employment. At these centres, users engage in occupational and other activities designed to promote autonomy and well-being. In addition, the occupational centre in Calldetenes provides physiotherapy services.

The main objective of this project is to evaluate the occupational centre’s physiotherapy programme through an observational study with a mixed-methods design, with greater emphasis on the qualitative component.

This project is part of the doctoral thesis of Sandra Verdaguer Grau, developed within the Industrial Doctorate program in collaboration between Sant Tomàs Foundation and UVic-UCC, and supervised by Dr. Javier Jerez Roig and Dr. Pau Moreno Martín.
