Meltem Yildirim, PhD, is a Serra Húnter Professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Welfare of the University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC) and a member of the Research Group on Methodology, Methods, Models and Outcomes of Health and Social Sciences (M3O). She has academic teaching and research experience since 2007, with expertise in qualitative research methodology, nursing research, and surgical nursing.
Her research interests include qualitative health research, surgical nursing, pain and symptom management, and nursing education. Within pain research, her work has particularly addressed acute and paediatric pain management, the assessment and underestimation of pain by healthcare professionals, and non-pharmacological approaches to symptom management. Her doctoral research in Surgical Nursing focused on the effectiveness of mirror therapy in the management of phantom limb pain, contributing a nursing care perspective to this field.
Her current research also focuses on innovation in nursing education, including simulation-based education and game-based learning as approaches to enhance students’ learning and engagement. She is currently involved in three Erasmus+ projects and participates in national and international research initiatives related to nursing, health, and education.
By 2026, she has authored or co-authored 41 scientific articles and presented 69 contributions at national and international scientific conferences. She has received six awards for research presented at scientific conferences and collaborates as a reviewer for scientific journals.
