Risk factors for impaired lung function in postCOVID-19 nursing home residents: a case-control study

This is a multicentre case-control study in geriatric residents of Osona (Catalonia), in which individuals with impaired (cases) and normal (controls) lung function will be studied. The main objective is to determine the predictive factors of impaired lung function in a sample of nursing home residents, previously infected by COVID-19.

Men and women between 65 and 95 years of age, with preserved cognitive capacity, diagnosed with COVID-19 at least 3 months previously will be included. Those who present any contraindication to perform a spirometry test will be excluded. Sociodemographic and other variables related to COVID-19 will be studied. Lung function parameters will be measured by spirometry. Fatigue levels will be assessed using the Chalder Fatigue Scale (CFQ-11), frailty will be assessed through the Clinical Frailty Scale, and functional capacity will be determined with the modified Barthel Index. This study is expected to provide scientific evidence on the long-term effects of COVID-19 infection in geriatric residents.

The project called Risk factors for impaired lung function in postCOVID-19 nursing home residents: a case-control study is funded by “Col·legi de Fisioterapeutes de Catalunya” is led by Dr. Vinicius-Rosa de Oliveira, professor of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Welfare (UVic-UCC) and member of the M3O.
