S-L: INCLUSIVE DIGITAL QUESTIONNAIRE FOR FAMILIES.

Participating entity: La Sínia School

Description of the S-L: creation of an inclusive digital form to be able to ask for the opinion and school needs of families in a highly complex educational center.

Studes: Social projects and ICT. 3rd course Degree in Social Education

Course: 2021-2022

Participants: social educator, social integration technician and families of La Sínia school.

Objectives:

  • Promote information in the school of digital resources for families.
  • Analyze the digital reality of families and its consequences.
  • To know the opinion of the families about the school’s services.
  • Be aware of how the family wants to communicate with the management team.
  • To know the interests of the families in relation to the school.
  • Create a digital form to obtain the data mentioned above.

Reflections of UVic students

  • We consider that one of the major challenges of the project, which is the creation of a useful form for the school, has been met. In this regard, we are satisfied that this form has been created and that the school will be able to use it for several years, thus taking into account the opinion of the parents of the school. Therefore, we believe that the need detected from which the form has been generated is very important, since mothers and fathers had not had the opportunity to express their reality and opinion. In addition, by detecting this need, we have been able to learn about a reality that is much more complex than we thought and we have had to take into account inequalities that we may overlook in our day-to-day work. This has meant that we have had to look for strategies to cope with the digital divide, culture shock, communication difficulties, etc., such as the creation of pictograms, voice recording, etc., and so on.
  • We were able to learn more about the digital reality of families, although we expected to have more information and to go deeper into this aspect.
  • We consider that we have fulfilled the purpose of promoting information in the school about digital resources for families, although we would also have liked to have more information, since we expected more responses from the forms.
  • As for the purpose of analyzing the digital reality of families and its consequences, we consider that we have fulfilled it, since we have learned much more about this reality.
  • We were able to learn more about the families’ opinions about the school, how they want to communicate with the management team and their interests in relation to the school, although we would have liked to have more time and space to go deeper into this aspect.
  • We have been well treated by the professionals of the school who have opened their doors to us and have always been receptive to us. We also believe that the center takes into account the different realities and carries out a great task to fight against inequalities. We have learned a lot, since they have shown us strategies to intervene as future educators, they have shown us an unknown reality, to keep in mind all the different situations that are present in the school…
  • We have had little time to carry out the project and we have also found that it was quite complicated to coincide with the schedules. This has meant that the project has been carried out, but not with the dimensions or results that we expected. As students of social education we have missed more spaces and moments to intervene, to generate links with the mothers and make them protagonists of the project…. We have also found that only mothers have participated in the project and that, therefore, we have not had the opinion of any fathers. From our point of view, the project has ended up being very brief and has not been carried out in the best way. We have also concluded that often as future professionals we will have to intervene in a short time, we will not have the best conditions and things will not go as planned from the beginning.
