A complete mining effluent database has been created

In the context of the preparatory Action A.2, an extensive database containing the composition of several mining effluents across Europe has been developed. In particular, the database already contains 5618 data sets from 90 different European mining sites, but it will be extended during the whole project execution. At the same time, a European map showing the location of the mining sites contained in the database has been created to better locate the regions affected by these polluting effluents.

The main objective of the Life DEMINE project is to demonstrate the technical and economic feasibility of decreasing the environmental caused by abandoned mine effluents in water bodies by adopting an innovative and versatile treatment process. The information contained in this database will allow us to assess the existing variability  in the composition of mining effluents across Europe, and therefore, to evaluate the real applicability of the DEMINE technology and to demonstrate that it can be extrapolated to different sites in Europe affected by the same environmental problem.

As previously mentioned, the database will be continuously updated to assure that it is a useful tool to help on the replicability of the developed technology. This will be done in the framework of Action B.5, which aims to guarantee the proper exploitation of the DEMINE treatment scheme.
