On 25th July 2017, it was celebrated the Kick- off Meeting of the LIFE DEMINE project in the facilities of University of Vic- Central University of Catalonia (lead partner of the project. The meeting count with the participation of the five partners of the project:
- The Technology Centre of Biodiversity, Ecology and Technology, and Environmental and Food Management (BETA) at the Fundació Universitària Balmes (FUB), from Vic (Catalonia, Spain). BETA is the project coordinator.
- Swansea University, from Swansea (Wales, UK).
- The Dresdner Grundwasserforschungszentrum (Dresden Groundwater Research Centre), from Dresden (Germany).
- Elentec Ltd, from Dwyran (Wales, UK).
- The government of the Principality of Asturias from Oviedo (Asturias, Spain).
The main objective of the LIFE DEMINE Project is to demonstrate and disseminate the technical and economic feasibility of decreasing the overall environmental impact caused by abandoned mine effluents in water bodies. This will be done by adopting an innovative and versatile treatment process that will include existing and widely known technologies based on membrane processes and electrocoagulation, with the global aim of obtaining a non-polluting final effluent.
The meeting supposed the official starting point of the project, where all project partners could meet and deeply discuss the different actions that will be developed during the project, which is expected to finish on June 2021. During the KoM, the project coordinator also provide to all partners the main financial and administrative issues of the LIFE programme.
At the end of 2017 it is foreseen to launch the official website of the LIFE DEMINE project, where will serve as the main dissemination platform where all the project activities and results will be published.
