Presentation of the InterHEd project within a Faculty Seminar

Our partners from CEIG UVic-UCC presented the project during an internal Research Seminar that took place in the Faculty of Communication and Economics (FEC) at Universitat de Vic-Universitat Central de Catalunya. During this session, Dr Gloria García-Romeral, our project coordinator and researcher at CEIG, introduced the InterHEd project to other colleagues from the Research and Knowledge Transfer Technical Office (OTRI) and the Equality Unit at Universitat de Vic – Universitat Central de Catalunya (UVic-UCC) led by Dr Mar Binimelis-Adell who has been invited to some of our events such as the MLIT and the TPM sessions from the very beginning of the project. Throughout the session, we discussed the relevance of some research lines, such as:

  • Investigations dealing with (post)colonial «otherness», led by personnel within the OTRI office at UVic
  • The intersection of queer women and religion, led by researcher Marina Castillo at CEIG
  • the relevance of applying an intersectional perspective to gender equality policies, by Dr Mar Binimelis-Adell
  • Gender non-conforming and contemporary cultural management and representation, conducted by researcher Lorena González at CEIG

In her presentation Dr García Romeral re-visited the objectives of the project, the pedagogical materials we will be developing, and some strategies to mainstream intersectionality within Higher Education, such as:

-Addressing intra-categorical complexities when discussing intersecting axes of inequality

-Working on social problems and challenges rather than focussing on identities as fixed categories

-Promoting the creation of coalitions in civil society that can work together towards changing legal frameworks
