In recent years great advances have been made in the development of digital technologies as a consequence of the increasing demand to solve applied problems that arise in practice and often require fast, effective, and reliable methods to identify real systems. We can see significant examples of this fact, in which new techniques are progressing at great speed, in the field of biomedical applications or in the development of applications for mobile devices (Apps). These two fields, which have much in common, are the basic lines of work of the Data and Signal Processing (TDS) research group. The main activity of the group is related to the study of methods of data processing and signal processing with the aim of generating and/or applying the results in industrial or health fields, among others.

The four main research lines of the group are:

Modelling and Implementation of Control Systems: focuses on the modelling and implementation of control systems related to Mobile Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Applications

Algorithms and machine learning techniques for problem solving: focuses on data processing, algorithm development and pattern identification using volumes of data automatically generated by sensors, sensor networks and industrial processes

Machine Learning and Biomedical Signal Processing: focuses on biomedical signal and image processing and the application of artificial intelligence techniques in this field, especially in EEG signals, MRI/fMRI images, handwritten data and speech signals.

Interactive games and apps: covers a wide spectrum of disciplinary areas including game studies, gamification, human-computer interaction and game development.

The Research Group on Data and Signal Processing has been certified as a Consolidated Research Group (Grup de Recerca Consolidat) by the Catalan Autonomous Government (Generalitat de Catalunya), with number 2021 SGR 00398, to support and fund groups that promote scientific research, with the aim of increasing the quality and internalization of their activities.
