Project Description
This project entails a short series of online conversations between teacher education students in multiple countries. Such conversations with others in different contexts can be helpful in: a) understanding the viewpoint and experiences of others, b) learning more deeply about students’ own experiences and context through comparison, and c) broadening the perspective of the global nature of the profession. The participating instructors will collaboratively create mixed groups of teacher education students from various courses and countries. In these small groups, students will spend time getting to know one another and learn about their contexts and experiences.

Project description and goals
Students will spend time learning about specific systems of education and supports for individuals with exceptionalities. Although due to the depth of experience many have with this topic and education in general, it can be difficult to identify and critique the unique elements of the system and underlying conceptions. Students will be partnering with teacher education students in other countries to share their own experiences and knowledge of their system and learn about another.
Activities
Students will be partnering with teacher education students in other countries to share their own experiences and knowledge of their system and learn about another. This will include:
-
- Meeting electronically in small cross-national groups to discuss instructor-provided questions.
- Submitting a 2-page essay and reflection which describes the experience and highlights similarities and differences as well as introspection on educational systems and the students’ own system in specific.
The questions/ prompts that groups will discuss have been framed thus far as:
1. Describe your experience in (home county/ state/ province) as a primary/ secondary school student (compulsory level).
2. Describe your experience in (home county/ state/ province) as a teacher in training (university/ college level).
3. What are your expectations for your future classroom? How would you describe what you expect to find/ experience as a teacher in your system?
