As barely 5% of students in the EU are able to go abroad during their studies, at UVic-UCC we believe that our Collaborative Online International Learning or COIL projects are an effective and engaging way to progress towards inclusive and embedded internationalization. COIL is a form of virtual exchange, also known as telecollaboration, e-tandem, global virtual teams, global networked learning environments or online exchange, similar initiatives which may differ in approach or methodology.

Broadly speaking Collaborative Online International Learning consists of getting groups of learners from different institutions working online on a common collaborative task. We aim for collaborating institutions to co-designed projects that involve students discussing course materials or content, solving a problem or creating a product. Benefits include developing soft skills and putting intercultural and language competences, skills of real value in the working world where global virtual teamwork has become commonplace. If you are not sure how to start a Collaborative Online International Learning project, take a look at our step-by-step practical guidelines and if you would like to collaborate with us, make a proposal and we will put you in touch with a suitable partner.
