I met Meritxell and Laia on a sunny day in April, in the mountainous region of Pallars Sobirà, in the Catalan Pyrenees. Both are dedicated to raising cattle. Meritxell has cows and mares, while Laia has a herd of goats and makes cheese.
Unlike most of the women in the region, they have decided to live and work in the Pallars hills despite the harsh conditions. Even in early spring snow covers the tall grasses. The slopes of the mountains slowly remove their winter coat to discover green and flowery meadows where bees begin to flutter.
