Summer 2018 – Serrania de Ronda

This summer, our student Laia Baró and the principal researcher of the AGATA project were interviewing women in the Serrania de Ronda, collecting their oral histories on the main environmental, socio-economic, and cultural changes that occurred in the last decades, specifically affecting the role of women, and the women’s current responsibilities and adaptive responses related to the management of the local agrifood system.

Laia has been working for two months in Benalauria. She has interviewed 14 women from 34 to 82 years old, who have a vegetable gardens in the mountains. They have been talking about social and environmental changes in their territory, the role of women in society and agriculture and food, as well as how they manage and take care of their gardens. To complete the information Laia has also interviewed 5 key informants. During her fieldwork, Laia was accompanied some days by Federica, Marta, and David.
