Xavier Rovira Algans
Xavier Rovira Algans was a young researcher at Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of Vic – Central University Catalonia where he was the research coordinator of the Molecular Photopharmacology research line in the TR2Lab (2017-2020). During that time Dr. Rovira was de principal investigator of a research project “Opto-cardiac modulation without the need of genetic manipulation using synthetic light- regulated drugs” granted 
on the framework of the Plan estatal de Investigación Científica y Técnica y de Innovación 2013-2016, in the modality 3: «proyectos de I+D+I para jóvenes investigadores sin vinculación o con vinculación temporal».
Dr. Xavier Rovira graduated in Biology, has a Master in Bioinformatics and molecular biology, a Diploma of advanced studies in biochemistry and molecular biology. Dr. Xavier Rovira did his Ph.D. in the Laboratory of Molecular Neuropharmacology and Bioinformatics at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Bellaterra, Spain) under the supervision of Dr. Jesús Giraldo. During the Ph.D. he carried out two predoctoral research stays in the Weill Medical College, Cornell University (New York, USA) and the Université Paris Descartes (Paris, France). In 2011, Dr. Rovira did a five-year postdoctoral stay in the team lead by Dr. Jean-Philippe Pin at the Institut de Génomique Fonctionnelle (Montpellier, France). His primary research interest has been the activation mechanisms of G protein-coupled receptors. Currently, the main goal of his research is the development of pharmacologically active agents which can be precisely controlled with light, improving their action and avoiding side effects.
After leaving TR2Lab, Dr. Rovira moves at the Dr. Amadeu Llaveria lab at the CSIC in Barcelona. More information
