Dr. Oriol Aguiló is an Internal Medicine specialist (2012) from the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona who is currently head of the Emergency Department at Hospital d’Olot (Girona). He joined the research line of clinical research on prevalent community diseases of the TR2Lab (2020) and he developed his PhD (doctoral thesis) in Medicine entitled “Electrocardiographic disturbances in acute heart failure: prevalence and impact on prognosis” (Universitat de Vic-UCC-2023).

Since 2020 he is involved in the “acute heart failure working group” of the Spanish Society of Emergency Medicine (SEMES). He is also member of the Spanish Society of Internal Medicine (SEMI), master in heart failure by Universidad Rey Don Juan Carlos (2020) and has a post-graduate degree in leadership by Universitat de Barcelona (2022).

Abstract Objective: To determine the prevalence, characteristics, timing of implementation and prognosis of patients with left bundle branch block (LBBB) and acute heart failure (AHF) treated with cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) in a real-life registry. Methods: We analysed the characteristics of patients with AHF and LBBB at the time of inclusion in the EAHFE (Epidemiology Acute [...]

Oriol Aguiló Pedret achieves Excellence “Cum Laude” for Uncovering Electrocardiographic Disturbances in Acute Heart Failure

On November 28, 2023, Oriol Aguiló Pedret, a specialist in Internal Medicine and the current head of the Emergency Department at Hospital d'Olot (Girona), successfully defended his doctoral thesis titled "Electrocardiographic Disturbances in Acute Heart Failure: Prevalence and Prognosis." The research findings affirm that intraventricular conduction disturbances, including bundle branch block, wide QRS, and QT interval abnormalities, are prevalent in patients experiencing acute heart failure. The presence of these disturbances is correlated with a modest increase in overall mortality and the risk of hospitalization. The thesis received the distinction of "Excellent cum laude" and was under the supervision [...]

Prevalence and impact on prognosis of right-bundle branch block in patients with acute heart failure: Findings from the RICA registry

Objectives This work aims to determine the prevalence, characteristics, and impact on prognosis of right bundle branch block (RBBB) in a cohort of acute heart failure (AHF) patients. Methods We prospectively analyzed 3,638 AHF patients included in the RICA registry (National Heart Failure Registry of the Spanish Internal Medicine Society). We independently analyzed the relationship between baseline and clinical characteristics and the presence of RBBB as well as the potential impact of RBBB on 1-year all-cause mortality and a composite endpoint of 90-day post-discharge hospitalization or death. Results The prevalence of RBBB was 10.9%. Patients with RBBB were older, [...]
